A+Technical Description
The 1998 Haas VF2B is a 3-axis vertical machining center representing the budget or bare-bones variant of the standard VF2 platform. It shares the same fundamental work envelope of 30 inches in X, 16 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, and the same 36 x 14 inch T-slot table as the full VF2. The VF2B was designed to offer the core machining capability of the VF2 at a reduced price point by eliminating or reducing certain standard options and accessories found on the base VF2. It is powered by a 20 HP vector dual-drive spindle motor with a CAT40 taper spindle rated to 7,500 RPM, making it capable of machining steel, aluminum, plastics, and a wide range of engineering materials. The machine uses the Haas CNC control with conversational programming and integrated tool-life management. The VF2B is built on the same cast iron base as the standard VF2, ensuring structural rigidity and long-term repeatability. The machine includes an enclosed work area and full chip and coolant containment. It weighs approximately 8,000 lbs. The VF2B has been discontinued by Haas and is no longer in current production, making used examples an economical entry point into the Haas VMC platform. Buyers should verify the specific options and configuration present on individual units, as the bare-bones designation means feature sets may vary.
