A+Technical Description
The 2006 Haas VF2D is a 3-axis vertical machining center based on the VF2 platform but featuring an extended Y-axis travel optimized for die and mold work. It provides a work envelope of 30 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z — the additional Y travel compared to the standard VF2's 16-inch Y allows the VF2D to handle larger mold bases and workpieces that require deeper reach. The table measures 36 x 18 inches to accommodate the wider Y envelope. Power is delivered by a 20 HP vector dual-drive spindle motor with a CAT40 taper spindle capable of 7,500 RPM, suitable for steels, tool steels, aluminum, and a range of mold materials. The machine is equipped with the Haas CNC control, offering conversational programming and integrated tool-life management. Like the standard VF2, the VF2D is constructed on a rigid cast iron base that provides excellent vibration damping and thermal stability critical for die and mold applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are paramount. The machine includes a fully enclosed work area with chip and coolant containment, and supports through-spindle coolant for deep-cavity mold machining. The VF2D weighs approximately 9,000 lbs, reflecting its heavier table and extended column structure.
