Technical Description

The 2017 Haas VF3SS is a 3-axis Super Speed vertical machining center designed for high-velocity machining of aluminum, plastics, and other light-alloy materials where elevated spindle RPM and fast rapids are essential to cycle-time reduction. The machine offers X-, Y-, and Z-axis travels of 40, 20, and 25 inches respectively, with a 48 by 18 inch worktable capable of supporting loads up to 3,000 lbs. The high-speed 30 HP spindle turns a CAT40 taper at speeds up to 12,000 RPM, enabling fine-finish cuts and aggressive light-depth passes that characterize Super Speed production strategies. The Haas CNC control provides the programming and motion-control foundation, with a color display, Haas conversational environment, USB and Ethernet connectivity, and support for standard G-code and parametric macros. Standard features include a 24-pocket side-mount tool changer, rigid tapping, high-speed machining mode, through-spindle coolant preparation, and programmable coolant nozzle. Box-way construction on all axes ensures structural rigidity during high-speed contouring, while the machine's approximately 13,000 lb mass contributes to damping and thermal stability. Rapids reach 1,000 IPM on X and Y and 800 IPM on Z, keeping non-cutting time minimal in high-volume applications.
