Technical Description

The 2000 Haas VF4D is a 3-axis vertical machining center designed specifically for die, mold, and large tooling applications, featuring an extended Y-axis travel of 26.5 inches that provides greater reach across the wider 60- by 26-inch T-slot work table compared to the standard VF4 configuration. This machine is an early production example of the VF4D variant, designed from the outset to address the extended Y-axis requirements of mold and die manufacturing. The full work envelope of 50 inches in X, 26.5 inches in Y, and 25 inches in Z accommodates large mold bases, cavity plates, and core inserts that would challenge a narrower VMC, making the VF4D a natural choice for shops producing tooling for automotive, consumer products, and aerospace composite applications. The 30 HP continuous-duty spindle operates at up to 7,500 RPM through a CAT40 taper, providing the torque needed for both heavy roughing in tool steel and P20, and the controlled finishing passes required to achieve low-roughness surfaces in mold cavities. A 24-tool side-mount automatic tool changer enables the multi-step operations typical of die and mold work — roughing, semi-finishing, finishing, and electrode machining — all in a single setup. The Haas CNC supports complex 3D contouring programs generated by modern CAM systems, with high-speed look-ahead processing that maintains smooth, accurate tool motion across curved surfaces. Linear roller guideways on all three axes deliver the positioning accuracy and repeatability essential for tight-tolerance cavity matching and parting-line fit. The machine's heavy cast-iron construction and wide base provide excellent stability for the extended Y-axis configuration. The 2000 VF4D is well matched to early adopters in the mold, die, and tooling industry who recognized the productivity advantage of the wider table and extended Y travel.
