The 2006 Haas VF5-40XT is a 3-axis vertical machining center built on the large VF5 platform with an extended Z-axis travel of 30 inches — 5 inches more than the standard VF5 — providing additional vertical clearance for tall workpieces, deep cavity machining, and high fixture arrangements that exceed the standard model's Z reach. This is a mid-generation VF5-40XT, a well-established platform delivering extended Z clearance on the proven VF5 base, well suited to aerospace, mold and die, and heavy equipment manufacturers requiring additional Z-axis reach for tall castings, deep mold cavities, and large fixture heights. The machine delivers 60 inches of X travel and 26 inches of Y travel, paired with a 72- by 24-inch T-slot work table that accommodates large castings, weldments, and complex fixture assemblies. The 30 HP continuous-duty spindle reaches 7,500 RPM through a CAT40 taper, providing the torque and speed range needed for roughing in steel and cast iron, as well as for high-feed finishing passes on large aluminum and composite structures. The extended Z travel of 30 inches — combined with the large X and Y travels — makes the VF5-40XT particularly effective for machining tall mold core and cavity components, large aerospace ribs and frames requiring deep pocket clearance, and engine block or housing components with tall feature heights. A 24-tool side-mount automatic tool changer enables multi-step operations including drilling, boring, milling, and tapping without manual tool changes. The Haas CNC provides comprehensive programming support with macro capability, canned cycles, and look-ahead processing for complex 3D programs.
