The 2014 Haas VF5-40XT is a 3-axis vertical machining center built on the large VF5 platform with an extended Z-axis travel of 30 inches — 5 inches more than the standard VF5 — providing additional vertical clearance for tall workpieces, deep cavity machining, and high fixture arrangements that exceed the standard model's Z reach. This is a late-mid-era VF5-40XT, a refined production platform with the extended 30-inch Z travel, well suited to aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing facilities where the additional Z clearance unlocks machining of tall workpieces and deep-cavity tooling components. The machine delivers 60 inches of X travel and 26 inches of Y travel, paired with a 72- by 24-inch T-slot work table that accommodates large castings, weldments, and complex fixture assemblies. The 30 HP continuous-duty spindle reaches 7,500 RPM through a CAT40 taper, providing the torque and speed range needed for roughing in steel and cast iron, as well as for high-feed finishing passes on large aluminum and composite structures.
