The 2022 Haas VR11 is a 5-axis gantry-style vertical machining center designed for large-format 5-axis contouring, aerospace structural components, mold surfaces, and complex multi-sided part machining. The VR-11 features a fixed gantry column with a tilting/rotating spindle head that provides simultaneous 5-axis motion across B and C axes, enabling full 5-sided machining without workpiece repositioning. Axis travels span 120 inches in X, 40 inches in Y, and 42 inches in Z, with a 120-by-28-inch table accommodating long structural workpieces typical of aerospace and energy sector applications. The current-generation VR-11 spindle uses an HSK-A63 integral-motor unit reaching 20,000 RPM at 24 HP, optimized for high-speed finishing on aerospace alloys and complex contoured surfaces. The extended X-axis travel of 120 inches makes the VR-11 particularly suited to fuselage panels, wing ribs, long extrusions, and large mold surfaces where a conventional VMC's work envelope would be insufficient. The machine's rigid gantry frame and high-mass construction minimize deflection and vibration during simultaneous 5-axis interpolation, maintaining dimensional accuracy across the full travel range. A high-capacity tool changer supports extended unmanned machining sequences across multiple operations and part features.
