Technical Description

The Mazak HQR-150MSY is a two-turret, two-spindle CNC turning center built by Yamazaki Mazak. The upper and lower turrets sit in line on the X axis, so both can cut the same part at once for balanced turning, or each can work on a different spindle. Both turrets have Y-axis travel and rotary tooling. The main spindle takes a 6 in chuck, has a 2.99 in bore and runs to 5,000 rpm. Its motor is rated 15 kW (20 hp) for 30 minutes and 11 kW (15 hp) continuous, with 172 ft-lb of peak torque. The second spindle also takes a 6 in chuck and runs to 6,000 rpm on an 11 kW (15 hp) motor. Each turret holds 12 tools, with 1 in turning shanks and 1 in boring bars. The rotary tool spindle runs to 6,000 rpm and is rated 5.5 kW (7.5 hp) for 10 minutes. Maximum machining diameter is 11.625 in and the distance between the chuck faces is 24.375 in. Travel is 7 in (upper) and 4 in (lower) in X, 4 in (plus or minus 2 in) in Y, and 20 in (upper) and 23 in (lower) in Z. Rapid traverse on the upper turret is 1,181 ipm in X and 1,575 ipm in Z. The machine runs the MAZATROL SmoothG control, which supports conversational and EIA/ISO programming. The footprint is 113 x 91 in, the height is 96 in and the machine weighs 20,326 lb. Bar feeders, work unloaders and robots are offered as options.
