Technical Description

The Mazak Quick Turn Smart 250 is a two-axis CNC turning center from Yamazaki Mazak, built at the company's Florence, Kentucky plant as an entry-level member of the Quick Turn family. The 20 in designation refers to the bed length, which Mazak sold as the 500U version. The machine uses a slant-bed layout with a single main spindle carrying a 10 in hydraulic chuck, rated at 35 hp (26 kW) with a maximum speed of 4,000 rpm. Bar capacity through the spindle is 3.0 in (76 mm). Tools are held on a 12-station drum turret for OD and ID turning, threading, grooving and drilling on center. A programmable tailstock supports shaft work. The Quick Turn Smart series was designed for job shops that need a simple, rigid lathe for chucking and bar work in steel, cast iron and aluminum, and it integrates with bar feeders and part catchers for unattended runs. The control is a Mazatrol conversational CNC that also runs EIA/ISO G-code. The M version of the same machine adds rotary tooling; this listing covers the plain turning model.
