Technical Description

The Mazak SQT-250MSY is a CNC multi-tasking turning center from the Super Quick Turn series, combining a main spindle, a second spindle, a milling turret and a Y axis. The machine offers a maximum swing of 20.67 in, a maximum cutting diameter of 11.81 in and a maximum bar diameter of 2.5 in. The distance between the standard chuck jaws of the main and second spindles is 22.63 in. The main spindle has a 2.99 in bore, a 25 hp motor and a speed range of 35 to 4,000 rpm, with C-axis indexing in 0.001 degree steps. The second spindle has a 1.73 in bore and a 10 hp motor. Tooling is held on a 12-position drum turret, and the rotary tool spindle is driven by a 5 hp motor at 25 to 4,500 rpm. Axis travels are 7.12 in in X, 22.63 in in Z and 4 in (plus or minus 2 in) in Y. The Y axis allows off-center milling, drilling and tapping without moving the part to a separate machine. Control depends on build year: machines from the late 1990s have the MAZATROL T-Plus control, and machines from the early 2000s have the MAZATROL FUSION 640 control.
