Technical Description

The Mori Seiki NL2500SY is a slant-bed CNC turning center from the NL Series, which Mori Seiki launched in 2004. The SY configuration combines a Y-axis turret with a second headstock (sub-spindle), so parts can be turned, milled and finished on both ends in one setup. Headstock 1 carries a 10-inch standard chuck on a JIS A2-8 spindle nose with a 91 mm (3.58 in) through-spindle hole and 80 mm (3.1 in) bar work capacity. It runs to 4,000 rpm on an 18.5/15 kW (24.7/20 hp) drive, with a 26/22 kW high-output motor as an option. Headstock 2 uses a 6-inch chuck, runs to 6,000 rpm on an 11/7.5 kW motor and travels 734 mm on the B-axis. The machine swings 923.8 mm (36.4 in) over the bed and turns up to 356 mm (14.0 in) diameter. Maximum turning length is 705 mm (27.7 in) on the /700 bed and 1,298 mm (51.1 in) on the /1250 bed. The 12-station turret uses Mori Seiki's Built-in Motor Turret (BMT) for rotary tools up to 6,000 rpm on a 5.5 kW motor. Axis travel is 260 mm in X and 100 mm (plus or minus 50 mm) in Y, with 30 m/min rapid traverse on X and Z.
