A+Technical Description
The Summit 3699 is a heavy-duty manual engine lathe designed for precision machining of large workpieces. This 36" x 320" machine features a robust construction with a 33½" chuck capacity and impressive swing capabilities: 36½" over the bed, 47¼" over the gap, and 23¾" over the cross slide. The machine accommodates workpieces up to 15¾" in length when using the front face plate gap. The spindle features an A2-11 nose with a 5½" bore diameter, providing substantial material gripping capability and rigidity for demanding applications. Operating at 20 variable speeds ranging from 11 to 500 RPM, the lathe offers exceptional versatility for various machining operations. The extensive feed options include 42 longitudinal feeds (0.002"–0.22" range) and 42 cross feeds (0.001"–0.11" range), enabling precise stock removal and surface finishing. Thread-cutting capabilities encompass 42 imperial threads per inch (9/16–64 TPI), 42 metric threads (0.75–64 mm), and 42 module threads (1–16), accommodating international specifications. The saddle travels 32 9/32" along the 26"-wide bed, while the cross slide and top slide provide 24" and 11 13/16" travel respectively. Tailstock features a 4¾" diameter spindle barrel with 11 13/16" travel and accommodates steady rests (1"–11 13/16" capacity) and follow rests (2"–15¾" capacity). Powered by a 20 HP AC motor, this machine delivers consistent performance for production and job shop environments requiring reliable, precision turning capabilities.
