Technical Description

The 2004 Fadal VMC3016 is a 3-axis vertical machining center built on Fadal's proven cast-iron base design, offering a compact yet capable platform for job shops and production environments machining small to medium-sized workpieces. The VMC3016 features axis travels of 30 inches in X, 16 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 30 by 16 inches that accommodates a variety of workholding configurations. The table is equipped with standard T-slots for fixture mounting. The spindle accepts CAT40 tooling and operates at a standard maximum speed of 7,500 RPM, driven by a 15 HP continuous-rated motor. Optional 10,000 RPM and 15,000 RPM high-speed spindle packages were available at the time of manufacture. The machine is equipped with Fadal's automatic tool changer, which provides efficient tool management during unattended or semi-attended production cycles. The 2004 VMC3016 runs the Fadal CNC 88HS control system, a well-documented and widely supported platform that features conversational and G-code programming, rigid tapping, and compatibility with common DNC setups. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 80 inches long by 68 inches wide by 84 inches tall, and the machine weighs approximately 14,000 pounds. The robust casting weight contributes to vibration damping and dimensional stability under heavy cutting conditions. Coolant system, chip conveyor provisions, and a 21-tool automatic tool changer are standard on most 2004 production units. The VMC3016 is well suited to aluminum, steel, and cast iron machining in general-purpose production and prototype environments.
