A+Technical Description
The 2017 Fadal VMC3020 is a 3-axis vertical machining center that extends the VMC30 series with a wider Y-axis travel, providing a larger machining envelope than the VMC3016 while maintaining the same X and Z travels. The VMC3020 offers axis travels of 30 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 30 by 20 inches equipped with standard T-slots for workholding. The additional Y travel is particularly advantageous for wider workpieces, multi-vise setups, and tombstone-mounted part families. The spindle accepts CAT40 tooling and operates at a standard maximum speed of 7,500 RPM, driven by a 15 HP continuous-rated motor. Optional 10,000 RPM and 15,000 RPM high-speed spindle packages were available at time of manufacture, enabling high-speed aluminum and non-ferrous machining applications. The automatic tool changer supports efficient multi-operation production cycles. The 2017 VMC3020 is equipped with the Fadal CNC 88HS control, offering conversational and G-code programming, rigid tapping, and DNC integration. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 80 inches long by 72 inches wide by 84 inches tall, and the machine weighs approximately 15,000 pounds. The wider column and table structure contributes to improved vibration damping and cutting stability across a broader range of workpiece sizes. The VMC3020 is well suited to job shops and production environments requiring a wider table envelope in a mid-size vertical machining center footprint.
