Technical Description

The 2007 Fadal VMC4020 FX is a 3-axis vertical machining center based on the VMC4020 platform, enhanced with the FX package that adds an integrated flood coolant system and an updated automatic tool changer configuration. The FX designation identifies a production variant optimized for higher-volume and longer-cycle production operations where coolant delivery and tool change reliability are priorities. Axis travels are 40 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 40 by 20 inches equipped with standard T-slots for workholding. The spindle accepts CAT40 tooling and operates at a standard maximum speed of 7,500 RPM, driven by a 15 HP continuous-rated motor. The integrated flood coolant system improves chip evacuation and thermal management during extended production cycles, extending tool life and improving surface finish consistency on steel and cast iron workpieces. Optional high-speed spindle packages at 10,000 RPM and 15,000 RPM were available at time of manufacture. The machine is equipped with the Fadal CNC 88HS control, offering conversational and G-code programming, rigid tapping, and DNC compatibility. The automatic tool changer provides efficient tool management for multi-operation production cycles. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 100 inches long by 80 inches wide by 90 inches tall, and the machine weighs approximately 18,000 pounds.
