The 2003 Fadal VMC4020HT is a 3-axis vertical machining center combining the large-format 40 by 20 inch table envelope of the VMC4020 with Fadal's high-torque spindle package. The HT designation identifies a spindle drive configured for elevated torque output at lower RPM ranges, making this variant well suited to heavy-cut operations in steel, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other difficult-to-machine alloys where spindle torque rather than speed is the primary cutting parameter. Axis travels are 40 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 40 by 20 inches equipped with standard T-slots for workholding. The spindle accepts CAT40 tooling and operates at a standard maximum speed of 7,500 RPM. The high-torque drive configuration delivers increased torque at the cutting zone compared to the standard VMC4020 spindle, achieved through modified drive ratios in the spindle drivetrain, enabling larger diameter tools and higher radial engagement at reduced spindle speeds. The continuous power rating is 15 HP. The machine is equipped with the Fadal CNC 88HS control, offering conversational and G-code programming, rigid tapping, and DNC compatibility. The automatic tool changer provides tool management for multi-operation production cycles.
