Technical Description

The 2005 Fryer VB60 is a 3-axis vertical bridge (gantry-style) machining center manufactured by Fryer Machine Systems of Patterson, New York. The VB60 is Fryer's core bridge VMC model, featuring a 60-inch X-axis travel on a fixed bridge structure that provides exceptional rigidity and thermal stability for precision machining of long workpieces. The machine provides X, Y, and Z travels of 60, 30, and 28 inches respectively, with a 24 x 73-inch worktable capable of supporting up to 4,000 lbs. The CAT-40 or BT-40 spindle operates at 60 to 8,000 RPM with 30 HP peak power, with 10,000 and 12,000 RPM refrigerated high-speed spindle options available. A 20-station carousel ATC or optional 24 to 60-tool arm-type changer supports multi-tool operations. Rapid traverse rates of 1,000 IPM in X/Y and 700 IPM in Z minimize non-cutting time. Positioning accuracy is 0.0003 inches with 0.0002-inch repeatability. CNC motion control on current production is the Fryer/Siemens 828-HS; earlier units carried Anilam 6000 or Siemens 840D controls. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 170 x 100 x 110 inches, and the machine weighs approximately 15,000 lbs.
