A+Technical Description
The 2015 Haas OM-2 is a 3-axis compact office CNC milling machine that provides a larger work envelope than the OM-1 while retaining the space-efficient footprint of the Office Mill series. Designed for light-duty precision machining in offices, educational facilities, and small prototype shops, the OM-2 delivers a 20 x 16 x 14 inch work envelope (X, Y, Z travels), offering meaningfully more capacity for larger workpieces than its smaller sibling. The CAT20 taper spindle operates at up to 6,000 RPM and is powered by a 1.5 HP motor, suited to machining aluminum, plastics, foam, wax, and other soft or semi-hard materials typical in prototyping and instructional environments. High-precision ballscrews on all three axes ensure accurate positioning and repeatability across the work envelope. The Haas CNC control delivers the same familiar Haas interface found on full-size machining centers, reducing the learning curve for operators transitioning from larger equipment. The fully enclosed design contains coolant and chip debris, making the OM-2 appropriate for installation in office or laboratory settings without dedicated chip management infrastructure. Standard features include an automatic tool changer and integrated coolant system. At approximately 2,500 lbs, the OM-2 is heavier than the OM-1 but remains manageable for installations without heavy-duty floor preparation. The Haas OM-2 is well-suited for CNC training programs, hands-on product development, and small-part production where a full-size vertical machining center would be excessive.
