A+Technical Description
The 2011 Haas OM-2A is a 3-axis compact office CNC milling machine and an updated variant of the OM-2, incorporating refinements to the control and mechanical systems while retaining the same proven work envelope and footprint of the OM-2 platform. The OM-2A is designed for light-duty precision machining in offices, educational facilities, and small prototype shops, offering a 20 x 16 x 14 inch work envelope (X, Y, Z travels). The CAT20 taper spindle runs at up to 6,000 RPM and is powered by a 1.5 HP motor, providing adequate cutting force for aluminum, plastics, foam, wax, and similar materials commonly machined in prototyping and training contexts. All three axes are driven by high-precision ballscrews, ensuring accurate and repeatable positioning. The Haas CNC control features the same operator interface as full-size Haas machining centers, making the OM-2A a practical training platform for operators who will later transition to larger equipment. The fully enclosed machine design contains coolant and chip debris within the enclosure, making it appropriate for installation in office or laboratory environments without dedicated chip management infrastructure. Standard equipment includes an automatic tool changer and integrated coolant system. At approximately 2,500 lbs, the OM-2A offers a good balance of capacity and mobility. It is well-suited for CNC education, small-part prototyping, and low-volume precision production where full-size machining center capacity is not required.
