Technical Description

The 2019 Matsuura MX-520 is a 5-axis vertical machining center from Matsuura's MX series, designed for simultaneous 5-axis machining of medium-to-large complex components in aerospace, automotive tooling, and precision engineering. The MX-520 offers X/Y/Z axis travels of 20.5 inches, 20.5 inches, and 17.7 inches, with a pallet measuring 19.7 by 19.7 inches capable of supporting workpieces up to 880 lbs with full 5-axis access through the integrated tilt-rotary table. The 20,000 RPM, 25 HP HSK-A63 spindle delivers a powerful combination of torque and speed, enabling efficient roughing in steel and titanium as well as high-speed finishing of aluminum and complex alloy surfaces with excellent surface quality. A Fanuc 30i-B CNC control provides full simultaneous 5-axis interpolation with AICC (AI Contour Control), nano-interpolation, and servo optimization for smooth, accurate contouring of compound curved surfaces. The MX-520's tilting rotary table provides A-axis movement and full 360-degree C-axis rotation, enabling complete 5-sided machining in a single setup and eliminating accuracy losses from multiple re-clampings. High-rigidity column construction, vibration-damping base design, and automatic thermal compensation maintain positional accuracy across long production runs. An automatic tool changer with up to 60 tool pockets and optional pallet automation support extended unmanned production capability. At approximately 23,000 lbs, the MX-520 offers a productive balance of 5-axis capability, workpiece capacity, and floor space efficiency for modern precision manufacturing.
