Technical Description

The 2014 Matsuura MX-850 is a large-format 5-axis vertical machining center from the MX series, engineered for simultaneous 5-axis machining of the largest and most complex workpieces in aerospace structural, energy, and heavy industry applications. The MX-850 offers X/Y/Z axis travels of 33.5 inches, 29.9 inches, and 21.7 inches with a large pallet measuring 33.5 by 29.9 inches, supporting workpieces up to 2,200 lbs with full 5-axis accessibility through the integrated tilt-rotary table system. A 12,000 RPM, 30 HP HSK-A63 spindle delivers exceptional torque for heavy roughing in titanium, Inconel, and structural steel alloys, while maintaining the surface finish capability required for precision final operations on compound surfaces. The Fanuc 30i-B CNC control manages full simultaneous 5-axis interpolation with AICC (AI Contour Control) and nano-interpolation, ensuring smooth, accurate contouring across the machine's full range of motion even at elevated feed rates. The MX-850's tilt-rotary table provides complete A and C axis movement, enabling true 5-sided machining in a single clamping for reduced setup time and improved geometric accuracy on complex parts. The machine's high-rigidity cast iron base and column construction, combined with active thermal compensation and direct-drive table axes, ensure long-term positioning accuracy across demanding production schedules. An automatic tool changer with up to 60 or 120 tool pockets and optional pallet automation configuration support complex multi-operation parts and extended lights-out production. At approximately 39,600 lbs, the MX-850 is Matsuura's largest 5-axis vertical machining center in the MX series and a definitive production platform for facilities machining large, complex, high-value aerospace and energy components.
