Technical Description

The 1999 Fadal VMC4020 is a 3-axis vertical machining center and one of Fadal's most widely produced and recognized models, representing the core of the company's product line across decades of North American manufacturing. The VMC4020 offers axis travels of 40 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 20 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 40 by 20 inches equipped with standard T-slots for workholding. The 40-inch X travel accommodates a wide range of workpiece sizes and multi-fixture production setups common in job shop and contract manufacturing environments. The spindle accepts CAT40 tooling — Fadal's standard taper across its product line — and operates at a standard maximum speed of 7,500 RPM, driven by a 15 HP continuous-rated motor. Optional 10,000 RPM and 15,000 RPM high-speed spindle configurations were available at time of manufacture, broadening the machine's capability for high-speed aluminum and non-ferrous applications. The automatic tool changer supports unattended production operation. The machine is equipped with the Fadal CNC 88HS control, a well-documented and widely supported platform offering conversational and G-code programming, rigid tapping, and DNC compatibility.
