Technical Description

The 1999 Forest Line V33800 is a 3-axis large-format portal (gantry) machining center designed for heavy-duty milling of very large workpieces in aerospace, energy, and heavy industrial applications. Built by Forest-Line (now part of the Fives Group) in France, the V33800 features a fixed-bed, moving-gantry architecture that accommodates exceptional X-axis travels well beyond the range of conventional VMCs. The machine's massive cast-iron structure provides high rigidity and thermal stability required for precision cutting on large-format components. The spindle system accepts ISO 50 tooling and delivers 50 HP of cutting power at speeds up to 5,000 RPM on the main spindle, with optional right-angle and multiplying head attachments extending operational flexibility. An integrated 72-position automatic tool changer and a multi-head attachment changer allow complex multi-operation setups without repositioning. The machine's gantry-style construction provides a working envelope of approximately 236 inches in X, 110 inches in Y, and 49 inches in Z, enabling machining of very large structural components, molds, and fabricated assemblies in a single setup. The overall footprint of approximately 382 x 251 inches reflects the industrial scale of this platform. CNC motion control is handled by the FIDIA C20 system, offering advanced multi-axis interpolation and attachment head management. The V33800 is well suited to industries requiring precision machining on parts that exceed the capacity of standard vertical machining centers.
