Technical Description

The 2020 GF Machining Solutions Mikron HEM 500U is a 5-axis high-performance vertical machining center manufactured by Georg Fischer Machining Solutions in Switzerland. Designed for precision five-axis milling of complex parts in aerospace, medical, automotive, and mold-making applications, the HEM 500U combines a compact footprint with outstanding dynamic performance and surface finish capability. The machine provides X, Y, and Z linear travels of 19.69, 17.72, and 15.75 inches respectively, with a 500 mm diameter swivel rotary table enabling full simultaneous five-axis contouring. The optional high-speed Step-TEC spindle delivers 36 kW (48 HP) at 40 percent duty cycle with speeds up to 20,000 RPM through an HSK-A63 taper, providing exceptional material removal rates for aluminum and challenging aerospace alloys. The standard spindle operates to 12,000 RPM via an ISO-B40 interface. CNC motion control is provided by the Heidenhain iTNC 530 system (TNC 640 on later builds), offering advanced five-axis interpolation, TCPM, and comprehensive programming flexibility. The machine weighs approximately 5,700 kg (12,566 lbs).
