Technical Description

The 2020 GF Machining Solutions Mikron MILL S 400U is a 5-axis compact high-speed vertical machining center manufactured by Georg Fischer Machining Solutions in Switzerland. Designed for high-precision five-axis milling of small to medium complex parts in the die/mold, medical, watchmaking, and precision instrument sectors, the MILL S 400U features an HSK-E40 spindle available in 30,000 or 42,000 RPM configurations with 13.5 kW (18 HP) power output. The machine provides X, Y, and Z travels of 19.7, 9.4, and 14.2 inches respectively, with a B-axis swivel of plus or minus 110 degrees enabling full five-axis simultaneous contouring. Rapid traverse rates of 61 m/min (2,402 IPM) in all linear axes deliver outstanding dynamic performance for micro-milling and high-speed finishing applications. CNC motion control is provided by the Heidenhain iTNC 530 system. The MILL S 400U's combination of extreme spindle speeds, compact five-axis kinematics, and thermal stability make it an industry reference for high-speed precision milling in graphite, hardened steel, aluminum, and titanium alloys requiring sub-micron surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
