Technical Description

The 2014 Hardinge GX480 is a 3-axis compact vertical machining center from the Bridgeport by Hardinge GX series, designed for precision small-part machining in toolrooms, precision job shops, and production environments where floor space is limited but accuracy requirements are demanding. The GX480 provides axis travels of 18.9 inches in X, 15.75 inches in Y, and 16.93 inches in Z, with a 23.6-by-15.75-inch table sized for small-to-medium precision components including mold inserts, hydraulic blocks, fixtures, and medical components. The spindle is rated at 10 HP continuous and reaches a maximum speed of 10,000 RPM in the standard configuration, with optional 12,000 and 15,000 RPM high-speed spindle packages available for aluminum and fine-finish applications. A 16-position tool carousel is standard, with an optional 20-tool swing-arm automatic tool changer available for programs requiring a larger tool inventory. The GX480's cast-iron column and base provide the rigidity and thermal stability associated with Hardinge's precision machining heritage, supporting tight-tolerance work within a compact footprint.
