Technical Description

The 2002 Hurco VM2 is a 3-axis vertical machining center from Hurco's VM series, offering a larger machining envelope than the VM1 for production of medium-to-large components in job shop and contract manufacturing environments. The VM2 features axis travels of 30 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 24 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 36 inches by 16 inches and T-slot fixturing across its full length. The spindle is driven by a 20 HP motor and operates at speeds up to 8,000 RPM through a CAT40 taper, delivering the torque and speed range required for production-pace milling, drilling, boring, and tapping in steel, aluminum, cast iron, and other engineering materials. The increased spindle power relative to the VM1 supports larger-diameter tooling and more aggressive cutting parameters appropriate to the VM2's larger travel envelope. The 2002 VM2 is equipped with Hurco's WinMax conversational CNC control, supporting simultaneous conversational and G-code programming at the machine without external CAM software. WinMax features a large touchscreen interface, DXF file import, Ethernet connectivity, and integrated toolpath simulation, enabling operators to program and verify parts at the machine with minimal setup overhead. Standard equipment includes a 20-tool automatic tool changer for multi-operation unattended machining. Optional features include coolant-through-spindle, chip conveyor, fourth-axis interface, and probing systems. Machine weight is approximately 8,000 pounds, providing a stable and vibration-resistant platform for production machining across the VM2's full travel envelope.
