Technical Description

The 2012 Hurco VM20 is a 3-axis vertical machining center from Hurco's VM series, combining mid-size travel with a 10,000 RPM spindle that extends the machine's capability into higher-speed cutting strategies for aluminum and light alloy production. The VM20 features axis travels of 30 inches in X, 20 inches in Y, and 24 inches in Z, with a worktable measuring 40 inches by 18 inches providing generous fixturing capacity for production setups and multi-part machining. The spindle is driven by a 20 HP motor and reaches a maximum speed of 10,000 RPM through a CAT40 taper. The 10,000 RPM maximum speed enables higher surface speeds for smaller-diameter tooling and opens the machine to high-speed machining strategies in aluminum that reduce cycle times and improve surface finish relative to conventional 8,000 RPM platforms. The spindle also delivers the torque needed for production-pace steel and cast iron machining at moderate speeds. The 2012 VM20 is equipped with Hurco's WinMax conversational CNC control, supporting simultaneous conversational and G-code programming at the machine without external CAM software. WinMax features a large touchscreen interface, DXF file import, Ethernet connectivity, UltiMotion advanced motion control, and integrated toolpath simulation.
