Technical Description

The 2014 Makino F8 is a 3-axis large-format vertical machining center engineered for heavy-duty die and mold machining of large workpieces including automotive body dies, structural aerospace components, and large injection molds. The F8 provides 51.2-inch X-axis travel, 31.5-inch Y-axis travel, and 25.6-inch Z-axis travel, served by a 61.0- by 31.5-inch work table with a maximum table load of 5,511 lbs. The heavy-duty CAT-50 spindle operates at up to 10,000 RPM with approximately 50 HP of power, with an optional 12,000 RPM configuration for higher surface speed applications. An optional HSK-A100 spindle taper is available for enhanced tooling rigidity. The Makino Professional 6 CNC provides SGI.5 smooth geometry interpolation, advanced thermal compensation, and comprehensive program and tool management. A 30-tool automatic tool changer supports multi-operation sequences. The F8's rigid column and base construction, combined with Makino's precision thermal management system, maintains accuracy through sustained heavy roughing and finishing passes. The machine occupies a floor space of approximately 161 inches long by 152 inches wide, with an overall height of 140 inches, and weighs approximately 36,376 lbs. The F8 is suited to large-scale mold and die manufacturing operations requiring an expansive work envelope, high spindle torque, and the reliability of Makino's proven machining platform.
