A+Technical Description
The 1991 Matsuura RA-III is a 3-axis vertical machining center from the Matsuura RA series, representing the third-generation RA platform in its non-pallet-changer configuration. The worktable accommodates pallets measuring approximately 420 x 800 mm (16.5" x 31.5") with axis travels of approximately 760 mm (29.9") in X, 440 mm (17.3") in Y, and 488 mm (19.2") in Z. The BT40 spindle operates from 30 to 8,000 RPM via a two-speed geared drive with a motor rated at approximately 15 HP, providing strong cutting performance across steel, cast iron, and aluminum materials. The automatic tool changer holds 20 tools standard. The CNC is a Yasnac (Yaskawa) controller providing full EIA/ISO and conversational programming with rigid tapping and canned cycle support. The RA-III offers a larger work envelope than the RA-I and RA-II, making it suitable for medium-sized precision components requiring multi-face and multi-operation setups. Matsuura's characteristic cast iron construction and precision ground guideways contribute to high machining accuracy and long-term repeatability.
