A+Technical Description
The 2004 MIKRON HSM 400U is a 5-axis high-speed machining center from GF Machining Solutions, purpose-built for ultra-precision machining of small, complex workpieces in graphite, hardened steel, and non-ferrous materials. The HSM 400U features a swiveling and rotating worktable with B-axis tilt of ±110 degrees and unlimited C-axis rotation, enabling complete five-sided access to intricate electrode, insert, and die component geometries in a single setup. X/Y/Z linear travels of 15.75, 9.44, and 13.78 inches define a compact machining envelope optimized for small, high-value precision parts. The electro-spindle reaches 42,000 RPM through an HSK-E40 interface, driven by approximately 17 HP, enabling high-speed micro-milling and graphite electrode machining at material removal rates not achievable with conventional spindle technology. Rapid traverse rates between 40 and 61 m/min minimize non-cutting repositioning time during complex high-speed programs. The Heidenhain CNC control provides high-speed block processing with look-ahead interpolation, simultaneous 5-axis motion, and 3D tool compensation suited to die and mold finishing and micro-component contouring. Tool magazines from 18 to 68 positions in HSK-E40 format support diverse tooling needs in electrode and precision insert machining workflows. At 5,500 kg (12,125 lbs), the HSM 400U's granite and cast iron construction delivers the thermal stability and vibration damping essential for achieving sub-micron surface finishes on demanding workpieces.
