A+Technical Description
The 2020 MIKRON XSM 600U is a 5-axis high-speed machining center from GF Machining Solutions, engineered for simultaneous five-axis contouring of precision graphite electrodes, hardened steel inserts, and non-ferrous components with exceptional surface quality and dimensional accuracy. The XSM 600U features linear motor drives on all linear axes, eliminating ballscrew friction and enabling rapid traverse rates of 80 to 100 m/min (3,150 to 3,937 IPM) with very high acceleration for reduced non-cutting time during complex five-axis programs. B-axis swivel of 140 degrees total and unlimited C-axis rotation provide full five-sided access to complex component geometries in a single setup. X/Y/Z linear travels of 31.49, 23.62, and 19.68 inches accommodate a wide range of electrode and insert sizes. The HSK-E50 electro-spindle reaches 36,000 RPM, driven by approximately 16 HP on a 30-minute duty cycle, enabling high-speed graphite and hardened steel machining at spindle speeds suited to fine surface finish requirements. The Heidenhain iTNC 530 control provides simultaneous 5-axis interpolation, high-speed look-ahead processing, and 3D tool radius compensation. Tool magazine options of 20, 60, or 68 positions support extended machining sequences. The maximum tool length of 300 mm and maximum tool weight of 7 kg define the tooling envelope. At approximately 11,990 lbs, the XSM 600U combines linear motor agility with the structural rigidity required for achieving consistent accuracy across complex electrode family production programs.
