Technical Description

The 1989 Okuma MA40VA is a 3-axis vertical machining center from Okuma's early MA series, representing the precision vertical milling capability available in Okuma's late-1980s product line. Built on a rigid cast iron column-and-base construction, the MA40VA was designed for contour milling, drilling, tapping, and boring operations in a mid-size work envelope. The worktable measures approximately 39.37" x 16.93" (1,000 x 430 mm), with axis travels of approximately 30" in X, 16.93" in Y, and 17.72" in Z. The gear-head spindle achieves a maximum speed of approximately 6,000 RPM with spindle taper of CAT40 or BT40, providing high torque at lower speeds for steel and cast iron work. The machine includes a standard 20-tool automatic tool changer (ATC). The MA40VA was equipped with an Okuma OSP-7000M CNC control at the time of production, providing G-code compatibility, canned cycles for drilling and tapping, and rigid tapping capability.
