A+Technical Description
The 2018 Okuma MB56VB is a 3-axis vertical machining center and the refined successor to the MB56VA within Okuma's MB-V series. The VB designation reflects further refinements to the spindle geometry, guideway preload, and control integration relative to the VA generation, while retaining the same double-column bridge frame, linear guideway construction, and Thermo-Friendly Concept (TFC) thermal management. The worktable measures 51.18" x 22.05" (1,300 x 560 mm) with axis travels of 41.34" in X, 22.05" in Y, and 18.11" in Z. Rapid traverse is 1,417 IPM (36 m/min) on all axes. The CAT40/BT40 Big-Plus taper built-in spindle motor delivers approximately 20 HP (15 kW) continuous with a standard maximum speed of 15,000 RPM. An optional CAT50 50-taper variant with a 6,000 RPM gear-head is also available for heavy-duty applications. A 32-tool arm-type ATC performs chip-to-chip tool changes in approximately 4 seconds. The Okuma OSP-P300M control features conversational and G-code programming, Okuma's Machining Navi, Collision Avoidance System (CAS), and real-time spindle load monitoring. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 100.4" x 118.1" (L x W) with a height of 108.3" and a weight of approximately 15,212 lbs (6,900 kg), representing an evolution in both performance and manufacturability over the MB56VA.
