Technical Description

The 1997 Okuma MC50VA is a 3-axis vertical machining center from Okuma's MC series, offering a larger work envelope than the MC40VA while retaining the same rigid cast-iron column-and-base construction and gear-head spindle drive optimized for heavy cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The MC50VA was designed for mid-size to large prismatic parts in mold and die, tool room, and general machining applications. The worktable measures approximately 51.18" x 20.08" (1,300 x 510 mm) with axis travels of approximately 41.34" in X, 20.08" in Y, and 22.05" in Z. The CAT50 taper gear-head spindle delivers approximately 15 HP continuous with a maximum speed of 5,000 RPM, providing high torque for aggressive stock removal in steel and cast iron. A 20-tool arm-type ATC enables multi-operation setups without manual tool changes. The Okuma OSP-7000M control manages all three axes with servo drives and provides G-code and conversational programming, canned drilling, tapping, and boring cycles, and rigid tapping. As a mid-1990s unit, the MC50VA should be evaluated for servo drive condition, ballscrew wear, and control system integrity. Machine weight is approximately 20,000 lbs, reflecting the heavy-duty construction characteristic of this generation of Okuma vertical machining centers.
