Technical Description

The 2020 Okuma MCR BII is a 3-axis large-bed vertical machining center from Okuma's MCR series, a traveling-column platform built for heavy-duty machining of very large workpieces in aerospace structural components, large molds and dies, power generation equipment, and heavy industrial fabrication. The MCR BII represents one of the largest VMC configurations in Okuma's product line, with axis travels and table dimensions that far exceed conventional moving-table machines. The stationary bed design keeps the workpiece fixed while the column travels along the X-axis, providing exceptional cutting rigidity for large, heavy parts. The table measures approximately 196.85" x 98.43" (5,000 x 2,500 mm) in a common configuration, with axis travels of approximately 157" in X, 92" in Y, and 27.5" in Z. The spindle delivers approximately 29.5 HP (22 kW) continuous with a standard maximum speed of 4,000 RPM and optional heads at 6,000 or 8,000 RPM for aluminum applications. The Okuma OSP-P300M control manages all three axes with servo drives, providing G-code and conversational programming, canned cycles, rigid tapping, and DNC connectivity. Machine dimensions and weight vary significantly by configuration; typical large-table MCR BII installations weigh in excess of 100,000 lbs. The MCR BII is a purpose-built platform requiring specialized installation, foundation preparation, and service infrastructure.
