A+Technical Description
The 2003 OKUMA VH40 is a 5-axis vertical machining center featuring a compact tilting-rotary trunnion table designed for high-precision 5-axis contouring of small-to-medium components. The 305 mm (12") diameter trunnion table tilts plus or minus 90 degrees on the B-axis and rotates 360 degrees continuously on the C-axis, supporting workpieces up to 551 lbs. Axis travels of 22.05" in X, 17.72" in Y, and 17.72" in Z provide a versatile 5-axis cutting envelope. The spindle delivers 15 HP at up to 8,000 RPM through a CAT40 taper, providing a capable balance of speed and torque for aluminum, steel, and titanium components. The machine is controlled by OKUMA's OSP-U100M-H CNC, which supports full simultaneous 5-axis machining, conversational programming, and OKUMA's proprietary thermal compensation systems. A 24-tool ATC supports complex multi-operation part programs. Rapid traverse of 1,181 ipm across all linear axes maintains production efficiency. The VH40's rigid monoblock construction and compact footprint of approximately 103" x 80" make it well-suited for precision aerospace, medical, and mold component machining in compact production environments.
