A+Technical Description
The 2017 Tormach PCNC440 is a 3-axis ultra-compact vertical machining center designed for benchtop or light stand-mounted operation in educational, hobbyist, and small-shop environments. Produced by Tormach LLC of Waunakee, Wisconsin, the PCNC440 is the smallest and most affordable machine in the Tormach VMC lineup. The work table measures 18" x 6.3" and the machine provides axis travels of 10.0" in X, 6.25" in Y, and 10.0" in Z. The spindle operates at up to 5,000 RPM with 0.75 HP continuous power and accepts R8 tooling. The PathPilot CNC control provides a touchscreen operator interface with G-code and conversational programming support, sharing the same software environment across the full Tormach product line for consistent operator familiarity. The machine occupies a footprint of 42" x 36" with an overall height of 72" and weighs approximately 600 lbs. As a light-duty compact VMC, the PCNC440 is suited to machining aluminum, plastics, brass, and mild steel for prototyping, educational instruction, and small parts production. It is not intended for full industrial production use. The small footprint makes it well-suited to space-constrained environments such as classrooms, makerspaces, and small workshops.
