Technical Description

The 2009 Bridgeport XR 1000 is a 3-axis vertical machining center produced by Hardinge Inc. under the Bridgeport brand, representing the flagship of the XR series introduced after Hardinge's 2005 acquisition of Bridgeport. The XR 1000 features a 47.2-inch by 23.6-inch worktable with a maximum table load of 2,000 lbs and a 30-station bidirectional side-mount automatic tool changer. The spindle is a WEISS-technology directly-coupled or belted unit delivering 25 HP (18.5 kW) with a standard maximum speed of 12,000 RPM; 9,000 and 15,000 RPM options were also available. The spindle uses a BT 40 or CAT 40 taper with Big-Plus dual-contact capability. X-axis travel is 40 inches (1,000mm), Y-axis travel is 24 inches (610mm), and Z-axis travel is 24 inches (610mm). The machine is equipped with a Fanuc 18i-MB CNC control (standard North American specification), providing high-speed contouring, rigid tapping, Look Ahead block processing, and comprehensive tool management. An optional Heidenhain iTNC 530 control was available. Rapid traverse rates reach 1,692 IPM on X/Y and 1,417 IPM on Z. The XR 1000 is built on a grey cast-iron base with 45mm linear roller guideways on all axes for high-speed accuracy. Standard equipment includes flood coolant, through-spindle coolant, automatic lubrication, and chip conveyor. Overall machine footprint is approximately 128 inches by 118 inches, with a machine weight of approximately 15,400 lbs.
