Technical Description

The 2000 Mazak Hypersonic 1400L is a 3-axis high-speed double-column vertical machining center from Yamazaki Mazak, designed for high-velocity machining of very large aluminum aerospace structures and other non-ferrous workpieces. The Hypersonic designation reflects the machine's focus on extreme spindle speeds and rapid traverse for maximizing productivity in high-speed cutting applications. The stationary worktable measures 4,000 x 1,250 mm (157.5" x 49.2") and supports a maximum workpiece load of approximately 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs). Axis travels are 4,200 mm (165.4") in X, 1,400 mm (55.1") in Y, and 585 mm (23.0") in Z. The BIG PLUS No. 50 spindle operates up to 20,000 RPM with a motor rated at approximately 50 HP continuous (100 HP at 30 minutes), enabling ultra-high-speed finishing of aluminum alloys, composites, and light non-ferrous materials with outstanding surface quality. A 30-tool ATC supports extended programs. The CNC is the Fanuc 15i — notably, the Hypersonic 1400L was built with Fanuc rather than Mazatrol control, atypical for Mazak, reflecting the specialized high-speed machining focus of this platform. Machine weight is approximately 24,950 kg (55,000 lbs) and the overall footprint is approximately 540" x 175" with a height of 151". The Hypersonic 1400L is targeted at aerospace prime and Tier 1 manufacturers requiring maximum throughput on large aluminum structural panels.
