A+Technical Description
The 2010 Mazak VCN Compact 5X is a 5-axis vertical machining center optimized for complex simultaneous multi-surface machining in a compact footprint. The machine incorporates a high-speed tilting rotary trunnion table with B-axis tilt range of -20 to +120 degrees and full 360-degree C-axis rotation, enabling single-setup machining of complex geometries without manual repositioning. X-axis travel is 19.6 inches, Y-axis travel is 16.9 inches, and Z-axis travel is 20.1 inches. The 100 mm diameter rotary table accommodates precision small and medium-sized workpieces. The high-speed No. 40 taper spindle reaches 20,000 RPM and is powered by an 18.5 kW (25 HP) motor, enabling efficient high-speed finishing of complex contoured surfaces in aluminum, titanium, and hardened steels. Rapid B- and C-axis motion at 75 and 100 RPM respectively minimizes rotary repositioning time between features. Mazak's simultaneous 5-axis control with 5-axis spline interpolation produces smooth contoured surfaces directly from the CNC without post-processing artifacts. The Mazatrol Matrix 2 CNC provides conversational and EIA/ISO programming, integrated tool length compensation in 5-axis mode, and advanced NURBS interpolation for smooth surface finishes. The VCN Compact 5X is well suited for aerospace impellers, medical implants, turbine blades, complex mold inserts, and precision instrument housings requiring simultaneous 5-axis motion. Its compact machine envelope allows installation in high-density manufacturing cells or alongside automation systems.
