Technical Description

The 2014 Mazak VTC160A is a 3-axis traveling-column vertical machining center designed for high-productivity machining of long or multiple-fixturing workpieces. In the traveling-column configuration, the column moves along the X-axis while the worktable remains stationary, providing exceptional floor space efficiency and enabling easy workpiece loading without moving the part. The machine features a 25.5 x 16.1 in. worktable with axis travels of 22.05 in. (X), 16.14 in. (Y), and 20.08 in. (Z). The CAT 40 spindle achieves a maximum speed of 10,000 RPM with 15 HP of continuous output, providing ample cutting force across a range of materials. Rapid traverse rates of 787 IPM (X/Y) and 590 IPM (Z) ensure efficient positioning between features. A 24-tool ATC supports complex multi-operation programs. The 2014 VTC160A is controlled by Mazatrol 640M CNC, which offers both conversational Mazatrol and EIA/ISO programming modes with full 3-axis contouring, tool life management, and DNC connectivity. The machine's rigid cast-iron construction and traveling-column design allow multiple parts to be staged on the table and machined in sequence, maximizing spindle utilization. Machine weight is approximately 17,300 lbs. The VTC160A is well suited to aerospace, mold, die, and general precision machining environments where production efficiency and consistent accuracy across multiple workpiece setups are priorities.
