Technical Description

The 1988 Mazak VTC16B is a 3-axis traveling-column vertical machining center, the mid-travel variant of Mazak's VTC-16 series featuring 44.09 in. of X-axis travel for machining elongated or multiple workpieces in a single setup. The traveling-column design keeps the worktable stationary while the column traverses along the X-axis, enabling efficient staging and loading of multiple parts. The machine is equipped with a 57.48 x 16.1 in. worktable capable of supporting loads up to 1,600 to 1,760 lbs. Axis travels are 44.09 in. (X), 16.14 in. (Y), and 20.08 in. (Z). The CAT 40 spindle reaches a maximum speed of 7000 RPM with 15 HP of continuous output. A 24-tool ATC supports complex multi-operation programs, with rapid traverse rates of 787 IPM (Y/Z) and approximately 670 IPM (X). Produced in 1988, this is an early-production VTC16B from the initial M32 control generation. The 1988 VTC16B is controlled by Mazatrol M32 CNC, offering conversational Mazatrol and EIA/ISO programming with 3-axis contouring and tool life management. The rigid cast-iron structure and traveling-column configuration make the VTC16B well suited for batch production of elongated components in aerospace, mold, die, and precision machining environments. Machine weight is approximately 11,000 lbs.
