Technical Description

The 1997 Mazak VTC20C is a 3-axis traveling-column vertical machining center, the extended-X variant of the VTC20 series with 65.3 in. of X-axis travel for machining long workpieces and multi-part setups. The traveling-column design keeps the worktable stationary while the column traverses along X, enabling efficient staging of elongated components and batch production without repositioning. The machine features a 78.88 x 20.08 in. worktable with a load capacity of 2,200 lbs. Axis travels are 65.3 in. (X), 20.08 in. (Y), and 20.08 in. (Z). The CAT 40 spindle reaches a maximum speed of 7,000 RPM with 20 HP of continuous output, providing strong cutting torque for ferrous and non-ferrous materials. A twin-matrix ATC with dual 24-pocket carousels (48 tools total) supports extended, complex programs across the full length of the table. The 1997 VTC20C is controlled by Mazatrol M-Plus CNC, providing conversational Mazatrol and EIA/ISO programming with 3-axis contouring and tool life management. With overall dimensions of approximately 154 in. long by 117 in. wide by 106 in. tall and a machine weight of approximately 14,500 lbs, the VTC20C is a capable production machine for aerospace, mold, die, and precision component manufacturing requiring long-workpiece machining capability.
