A+Technical Description
The 2006 MAZAK VTC250D-50 is a 3-axis traveling-column vertical machining center featuring a CAT-50 spindle taper and an extended deep-column configuration that increases X-axis travel beyond the standard VTC-250/50. The deep-column variant provides 69.3 inches of X-axis travel to accommodate longer workpieces while retaining the same Y- and Z-axis capacity. The 30 HP continuous-duty spindle motor delivers high torque for aggressive roughing in steel, titanium, and cast iron. Maximum spindle speed of 6,000 RPM via 2-range gearbox suits heavy material removal as well as semi-finish operations. The 24-tool automatic tool changer and 2,778-pound table load capacity support demanding production schedules. A rapid traverse rate of 1,181 IPM minimizes non-cutting time across the extended X travel. The Mazatrol CNC control provides conversational and G-code programming capability depending on build year, with Matrix control featuring enhanced graphics and tool-life management on later units. The traveling-column architecture keeps the workpiece stationary on the 82.7-inch T-slotted table, allowing the spindle column to traverse the full length of the part without repositioning. This configuration is well suited to mold bases, large frame components, and multi-step sequential machining operations.
