A+Technical Description
The 1989 Mori Seiki MV65 is a 3-axis vertical machining center designed for large-format precision machining of aerospace structural components, large mold bases, heavy industrial parts, and other oversized workpieces. Equipped with a CAT 50 spindle taper, the MV65 delivers the torque and rigidity required for demanding cuts in steel, titanium, cast iron, and difficult-to-machine alloys. A 25 HP spindle motor drives the spindle to a maximum speed of 4,000 RPM, providing high torque output suited to large-diameter tooling and heavy material removal. The worktable measures 66 by 26 inches—among the largest in the MV series—with a work envelope of 60.0 inches in X, 25.6 inches in Y, and 25.6 inches in Z. The CNC control is a Mori Seiki MF-M6 on earlier units or a Fanuc 11M on later production models, both delivering reliable G-code operation and industry-standard compatibility. An automatic tool changer with 30 positions enables complex multi-operation part programs without manual intervention. Overall machine dimensions are approximately 172 by 152 by 124 inches, and the machine weighs approximately 30,800 pounds—reflecting the substantial cast iron construction that contributes to the MV65's rigidity and vibration damping. Box-way guideways on all three axes further enhance structural stability under heavy cutting loads. Note: Mori Seiki merged with DMG to form DMG Mori around 2013; machines labeled MORI SEIKI are pre-rebranding era. The MV65 is well-suited for aerospace, heavy industry, and large-scale die and mold applications.
