A+Technical Description
The 2012 Tormach PCNC770 is a 3-axis compact vertical machining center designed for educational, hobbyist, and light-duty production use. Produced by Tormach LLC of Waunakee, Wisconsin, the PCNC770 was introduced circa 2012 as a compact alternative to the larger PCNC1100, sharing the same PathPilot software platform and R8 tooling ecosystem. The machine features a work table measuring 26" x 8" and provides axis travels of 14.0" in X, 7.5" in Y, and 13.25" in Z. The spindle operates at up to 5,000 RPM with 1 HP continuous power and accepts R8 tooling. An optional high-speed spindle upgrade to 10,000 RPM was available from Tormach. The PathPilot CNC control provides a touchscreen operator interface with G-code and conversational programming, tool path preview, and intuitive setup workflows. The machine occupies a footprint of 56" x 48.5" with an overall height of 88" and weighs approximately 610 lbs. As a compact light-duty VMC, the PCNC770 is suited to machining aluminum, plastics, brass, and mild steel for prototyping, short-run production, and educational environments. It is not intended for heavy industrial production use. The PCNC770 was later succeeded by the updated 770M model.
